Day 5 | The Scepter from Judah

Derek Brandt

There is something special about a father’s insight. When the Patriarch Jacob gathered his twelve sons in the event of his own life’s twilight, he spoke truth and gave perspective. Arriving at his son Judah, Jacob shares this picture of lordship that shall not depart from his tribe. Throughout Jacob’s life—even in moments of severe depravity and sin—God advanced His purpose to redeem His people. This advance was promised to continue with Judah and eventually culminate in the ultimate redemption accomplished in Jesus. God told a story with perfect purpose which offers as both its apex and object, the manifested Savior—our Emmanuel—Jesus.

By the saving power of Christ and the Holy Spirit’s endowing power, God extends His story of redemption through your life, right now. Wherever you are reading this, God has a purpose for His people and for you. Like Judah, you have been chosen. The Father has saved you from your sin and He is calling you now to take up your mantle as an adopted child of the Most High God and shine the bright light of redemption into a dark world, deeply in need of Jesus.
