Day 21 | The Birth of the King
I was 15 years old. I remember it so vividly. I was terrified. I was competing in a speech competition and it was a big deal. I was nervous. I felt unprepared. Would I remember what I was supposed to say? Would I make a fool of myself? I wanted to back out, but that ship had sailed. I was next. It was going to happen. “The time came.” I stood in front of a large crowd. I delivered my speech.
For Mary, the time had come. Her moment…prepared before the foundations of time. The moment that would cement her place in history as the mother of Jesus, the Son of God. When she first knew that her moment was coming, she was terrified. When the Angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds, the humblest of society, they were terrified.
We all have our moment. The same God who moved at that time, is the same God who moves today. I’m guessing that you might be terrified at the thought that God has chosen you for this moment…your “time has come.” The Bible is pretty clear when it comes to you. YOU have one life. YOU have an opportunity to receive Christ and step into your very own purpose that God has for you, for the one life that you get to live in the scope of eternity. What a great thing!
So, as you come into this Christmas season, think about that wonderful reality. You are somebody! God wants to use you to fulfill His purpose in YOUR sphere of influence. You might be afraid, but take heart, God has chosen YOU for this moment. Rest in that. Find joy in knowing that YOUR life matters. Walk with confidence, knowing that a Sovereign God has chosen YOU for something great.
